Even with Voice over IP – the Switched Line Lives

Clarity Chief Pfeiffer: „ISDN and IP-Telephony complement each other ideally“

Regarding the hype about Voice over IP (VoIP), Clarity Chief Christoph Pfeiffer speaks in favor of the classical switched line based telephony. "It is important to recognize the entire potential of VoIP. It is additionally important to realize when a mixed solution of software based telephone systems and ISDN is the best solution“, says Pfeiffer.

According to Pfeiffer, the application of  Voice over IP makes sense especially in two scenarios: First, hosting the entire telephony solution so that no additional hardware or software except the Local Area Network(LAN) and exchange connection to the provider is required by the customer. Secondly, as connection between several company locations.

Unlike the hosting model, which makes only sense using Voice over IP, a mixed solution can be effectively implemented for connecting home offices. Christoph Pfeiffer: “In order to save telephone costs, home office workers should preferably use VoIP for calling. However, if network load which leads to a bad connection, a classical ISDN or analogue line should be available.
